Custom hardware development: electronics, circuit boards and sensors for your product

You need a device that cannot be bought off the shelf? I develop electronics with microcontroller, sensors and wireless connectivity, including the firmware and software behind it – from the first concept to a working prototype.

What businesses can do with custom hardware

Standard devices often do not fit or tie you to expensive manufacturer clouds. A custom solution measures, controls and reports exactly what you need. Some examples:

Measurement hardware with data transmission

Capture temperature, humidity, pressure, fill level, current or vibration and send it via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa or cellular to your system or dashboard.

Retrofit machines and equipment

Older machines without an interface report operating hours, status and faults. Maintenance becomes plannable without replacing the equipment.

Smart home and building automation

Sensors, switches and controllers for lighting, heating, ventilation or access, connectable to common systems such as Home Assistant or via MQTT.

Meter and consumption monitoring

Read electricity, water or gas meters and evaluate consumption, for example for energy monitoring or internal cost allocation.

Controllers and control panels

Compact boards for relays, motors, valves or lighting, with display, buttons or app control. A lean alternative to an industrial PLC for small series.

Data loggers and test benches

Record measured values automatically for quality assurance, testing or documentation, with export to Excel, a database or your own software.

Trackers and wireless sensors

Battery-powered devices that run for months and report status, location or events, for example for logistics, agriculture or rentals.

Your own product ideas and small series

For founders and inventors: from prototype through first test samples to a small production run.

Hardware and software from one source

A device is only useful when its data arrives and is processed further. That is why I develop not only the circuit board but also the firmware on the microcontroller and, on request, the software behind it: a web application or app that displays measurements, analyses them, triggers alarms or passes them to existing systems.

As an engineer in electrical and information technology specialising in technical computer science, with experience in embedded software development, I know both sides. You get one contact instead of separate providers for electronics, firmware and software.

From idea to working device

  1. Requirements and feasibility

What should be measured or controlled? What environment, quantity and power supply? I check what is technically and economically sensible before you invest.

  2. Concept and prototype

Selection of microcontroller, sensors and wireless technology, schematic, board layout and a first working setup.

  3. Firmware, software and testing

Programming, connection to your system and tests in real use. Improvements flow into the next version.

  4. Handover and documentation

Schematic, layout data and source code are documented. On request I support a small series through a manufacturer.

What I want to address openly

Hardware development has limits that I state clearly upfront: approvals such as CE marking, EMC or radio testing are carried out by accredited test labs. I design with testing in mind and support the process, but cannot issue an approval myself. Mains voltage (230 V) or safety-relevant applications I implement only after careful review and with suitably qualified partners. And mass production is not my business, but I prepare and support it.

If a project is better solved with standard hardware, I will tell you that too.

Frequently asked questions

Do you also develop complete products?

Yes, from the idea through prototypes to test samples and small series. For larger quantities I work with manufacturers whom I support in preparation.

Which technology do you use?

That depends on the task. Typical are microcontrollers such as ESP32 or STM32 with suitable sensors and wireless technology (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, cellular). I choose what fits requirements, power consumption and cost.

What does a prototype cost?

That can only be said after a short feasibility check, because effort and material depend heavily on the project. Afterwards you receive a concrete quote, at a fixed price on request.

Do I need CE marking?

That depends on the product, for example whether and how it is placed on the market and whether it transmits radio signals or connects to mains voltage. We clarify this early in the project. This is not legal advice.

Who owns the schematic and source code?

The handover of documents and usage rights we settle upfront in the quote so that you do not become dependent on me later.

Can you extend existing devices?

Yes, for example by retrofitting sensors, data transmission or a new controller. Repairing defective devices is not my focus.
